Andy Kaufman was an American entertainer, actor, and performance artist who had a net worth equal to$3 million at the time of his death (after adjusting for inflation). Andy Kaufman was born in New York City, New York in January 1949 and passed away in May 1984. After graduating from Grahm Junior College Kaufman started performing stand-up comedy at small clubs on the East Coast.

Some of his popular characters included Foreign Man, Latka, and Tony Clifton. As an actor he was best known for starring as Latka Gravas in the television series Taxi from 1978 to 1983. Kaufman also appeared in episodes of Saturday Night Live from 1975 to 1982 as Foreign Man, British Man, and Elvis. He also starred in the films God Told Me To, In God We Tru$t, and Heartbeeps. For Taxi he was nominated for Golden Globe Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for TV and for Best TV Actor in a Supporting Role. Kaufman was also nominated for TV Land Awards for Taxi and Saturday Night Live. He was also involved in professional wrestling and was involved in a famous incident with Jerry “The King” Lawler on Late Night with David Letterman. Andy Kaufman passed away on May 16, 1984 at 35 years old from kidney failure. Over the years there have been many rumors that Kaufman faked his own death. In September 2014 his friend and writing partner Bob Zmuda claimed that he believed Andy faked his death and will be emerging to reveal his greatest prank soon. His books The Huey Williams Story, God…and Other Plays, and Poetry and Stories were published posthumously.
