Alexander Ponomarenko is a Russian shipping magnate who has a net worth of $2.1 billion. Ponomarenko started to earn his fortune when he and Alexander Skorobogatko set up a small perfume factory in Ukraine. Next, the duo founded Russian General Bank in Moscow, which served the Novorossiysk port operation.

They went on to buy interests in stevedoring companies at the port in Russia’s post financial crisis period. Eventually, Ponomarenko and Skorobogatko united their acquisitions in Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port. After it was publicly listed in 2007, the IPO resulted in a bonanza of $1 billion. They decided to sell 20% of their holdings to Arkady Rotenberg in 2008 and in 2012 they joined with Rotenberg to establish TPS Real Estate Holding Ltd with a capital of $15.5 billion. A doctorate holder in economics from the Russian State Academy of Management, Ponomarenko is a married man and a father of two.
