Alexander Armstrong was born in Rothbury, Northumberland, England, United Kingdom in March 1970. He is best known for being one half of the comedy duo Armstrong and Miller with Ben Miller.

From 2000 to 2001 he starred as Nick on the TV series Beast. From 1997 to 2001 and then again from 2007 to 2010 he starred on The Armstrong and Miller Show and he starred as Phil Mee in the TV series Life Begins from 2004 to 2006. He has hosted the BBC game show Pointless since 2009. Armstrong has also voiced the roles of Profession M in the TV series Tooned and the alien supercomputer Mr. Smith in the Doctor Who spin-off TV series The Sarah Jane Adventures. In 2010 he won a BAFTA TV Award for Best Comedy for The Armstrong and Miller Show.
