Ted Kennedy was an American politician who served as a United States Denator from Massachusetts for many years. At the time of his death in 2009, Ted Kennedy had a net worth of $100 million. According to his last Congressional financial disclosure, submitted in 2007, Ted had a net worth ranging from a minimum of $43 million and a maximum of $163 million.

Kennedy served in the Senate for almost 47 years and over 300 of the bills enacted by Kennedy and his staff were passed into law.

He was born Edward Moore Kennedy on February 22, 1932 in Brookline, Massachusetts. Ted made a name for himself as a powerful US senator from Massachusetts in a tenure that spanned nearly five decades. Being a member of the eminent Kennedy clan, Ted first entered the Senate in 1962 as a replacement of his elder brother, John F. Kennedy, who had became president in 1961. His subsequent reelections for the position in 1964, 1970, 1076, 1982, 1988, 1994, 2000 and 2006, made him the fourth-longest-serving senator in the history of United States, having served there for almost 47 years until his death in 2009.

A loyal Democrat with tremendous charisma and immense oratorical skills, Ted acquired a reputation as an engaged liberal who tackled vital issues like education and health care. But on the other hand, his personal life was a messy one often including tales of drinking and womanizing. That lifestyle not only made him a hot topic for gossip columnists, but also involved him in an accident in which a young woman, Mary Jo Kopechne, drowned on Chappaquiddick Island, off the coast of Massachusetts. Even though he was convicted of leaving the scene of the accident, his political career did survive. Actually, he even wanted to make a step further in the political sphere in 1980 as he ran for president that year. The feat ended up with defeat by incumbent president Jimmy Carter. Over the years, Ted became one of the Senate’s elder statesmen making bipartisan friendships with conservative Senator Orrin Hatch and others.

In 2008, he suffered a seizure and started a treatment for a malignant brain tumor, but irrespective of his fragile health Ted remained in the Senate and supported the candidacy of President Barack Obama the same year. He lived to see Obama inaugurated and few months later died at his family home in Cape Cod in August 2009. Ted Kennedy’s Senate position temporarily held his longtime colleague Paul Kirk, until Republican Scott Brown won the seat in a special election in January of 2010. Brown was replaced by Democrat Elizabeth Warren in the general elections of 2012.
