Phoebe Millicent Hearst Cooke was an American businesswoman and philanthropist who had a net worth of $1.9 billion dollars. With most of her fortune being derived from Hearst Corp., she left a mark for leading an active and generous life. Phoebe Millicent Hearst Cooke (July 13, 1927 – November 18, 2012) and her twin brother were born in San Francisco.

She spent most of her childhood on Hearst’s vast ranch and the other central coast properties of the family. Thus, she grew up around western traditions and became an avid rider. She was the granddaughter of William Randolph Hearst, the publishing tycoon. Even though her grandfather was such a prominent figure she wasn’t much of a public person. Phoebe sat on the board of directors of the Hearst Corporation from 1962 to 1998 as the Chairperson. Today 100% of the stakes of Heart Corp. is estimated at about $90 billion. In 1996, she was inducted into the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum’s Hall of Fame. She also supported a variety of philanthropic causes with one of the nation’s biggest fortunes. She and her husband lived in the upscale bay for most of their 45 year marriage, where she was active in the National Center for Equine Facilitated Therapy. Her husband Amory “Jack” Hearst, died 4 years prior to her on 15th September 2008, after being bed ridden for a long time.
