Born in Springfield, Kentucky, Phil Simms, was the quarterback for his high school football team in Louisville, Kentucky, where he grew up. He went on to play for Morehead State University during college, but his years with the school were largely unsuccessful.

Many people in the crowd booed when the New York Giants drafted him in 1979. However, his first season with the team was extremely successful, and he finished the season as runner-up for Rookie of the Year honors. The next few years, unfortunately, were almost totally unsuccessful, primarily due to injuries, and his popularity with fans disappeared quickly.
