Paul Ramsay was an Australian entrepreneur and philanthropist who had a net worth of $3.4 billion. Born in 1936, Ramsay earned his net worth as the Chairman and founder of Ramsay Health Care, a chain of private hospitals. After he dropped out of the University of Sydney, in 1964, he launched his first hospital that was one of the earliest private psychiatric hospitals in Sydney.

Through the years, his business evolved into Ramsay Health Care, which currently owns a chain of 116 hospitals and other facilities across Australia, the U.K., France and Indonesia. The hospitals treat about 1 million patients per year, and have a staff of more than 30,000 employees. Paul Ramsay still holds 36.2% of the company’s shares, which makes him the largest individual shareholder. In 1983, he purchased shares of Prime Media, a regional television company, and now, he is the Chairman of the Board. He also owned a stake in Sydney FC, an Australian soccer team and served as Chairman in 2009. Two years later, Ramsay made a donation of $300,000 to the Kevin Spacey Foundation, which gives support to young actors, directors, writers and producers. Furthermore, he served as a member of the Boards of Adstream and Australian Media Centre. Being a great philanthropist, Ramsay sits on the Board of the George Gregan Foundation, and in 2002, he became an Officer of the Order of Australia. Paul Ramsay died on May 1st, 2014. Upon his death, it was revealed that Ramsay had left his entire fortune, more than $3 billion, entirely to charity.
