He is a goalkeeper who started his senior career for Atlas from 1993 to 1996 where he had 81 appearances. Sanchez played for Club America from 1996 to 1999 appearing in 76 games.

He joined Guadalajara in 1999 where he had 272 caps until 2007. With Guadalajara Sanchez won the Primera Division de Mexico Apertura in 2006. He joined Santos Laguna in 2007 and won the Primera Division de Mexico Clausura in 2008 and 2012. Oswaldo has also represented Mexico in international competition. He played for their Under-20 team and then played for the senior team from 1996 to 2011 where he had 99 appearances. With Mexico Sanchez has won a USA Cup in 1996 and CONCACAF Gold Cups in 1996 and 2003. He holds the record for the soccer player with the most appearances in Primera Division de Mexico at over 700. He was named the Primera Division de Mexico Best Goalkeeper seven times and the Best Player twice. He was also named Best Goalkeeper at the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2003, FIFA Confederations Cup 2005, and CONCACAF Champions League 2012-13.
