Naughton attended De La Salle College Dundalk. In 1973 he founded Glen Electric in Newry, Co. Down, Northern Ireland. Glen Electrics acquired the leading UK electrical heating brand Dimplex in 1977 and became the Glen Dimplex Group. They went on to acquire Morphy Richards, Blanella, and Burco Dean Appliances. Dr. Naughton is an engineer and took the company to become the largest manufacturer of domestic heating appliances in the world. The business operates plants in the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, and Northern America. Naughton holds shares in the Merrion Hotel Group and the Sunday Tribune newspaper. Naughton funds an annual scholarship program at his alma matter and donates to Trinity College Dublin and the University of Notre Dame. He is married and has three children. Before founding Glen Electric he worked for an aviation firm and an electrical appliance company. He is an art collector and resides in Maeth, Ireland.
