Marc Rowan entered the billionaire circles as one of the co-founders of Apollo Global Management, a private equity firm that has leveraged buyout transactions and purchases of distressed securities as it specialty along with corporate restructuring, industry consolidations and special situations.

After he graduated summa cum laude with a BS and MBA in business administration from the University of Pennsylvania, he started his career working for the Mergers & Acquisitions Group of Drexel Burnham Lambert, in New York City and Los Angeles. It was in 1990 that he teamed up with his colleagues Joshua Harris and Leon Black to form Apollo. After the firm went public in 2011, Rowan sold over $100 million worth of shares in the secondary offering in May. However, he still remained substantial shareholder and his fortune swelled together with Apollo’s stock. In 2012, he sold oceanfront mansion in Southampton for $28.5 million, as well as he paid a total of $26 million for a Manhattan co-op.
