Kerr Neilson is a co-founder and managing director of Platinum Asset Management who has a net worth of $3 billion. Born in South Africa in 1950, Kerr Neilson is an Australian investment manager, making his early starts in financial management in the investments department of Courtaulds in London.
He returned to South Africa in 1973, and ten years later he moved to Australia, where he became the head of retail funds management for Bankers Trust Australia (now known as BT Australia). It was in 1994, when Neilson established the Platinum Asset Management with initial backing from George Soros. Nowadays serving as its managing director and portfolio manager, Neilson is often linked to Warren Buffett for his ability to consistently select high-performing stocks. Back in May 2007, he floated 20 percent of Platinum Asset Management on the Australian Securities Exchange. After the 57 percent of the company’s shares he retained were estimated at A$2.9 billion, he became one of the richest men in Australia. Being the principal shareholder of Platinum, helped him earn A$42 million in dividends throughout the 2012 financial year. Apart from the above, Neilson is a married man with two children. Together with his wife Judith, Kerr opened the White Rabbit Gallery in 2009 in Sydney, in order to share with the world their extensive collection of contemporary Chinese art.
