He went undrafted in the 2012 NBA Draft and played for the Orlando Magic’s Orlando Summer League team and then for the Charlotte Bobcats in the Las Vegas Summer League. Owens was signed by the Bobcats but soon waived. From 2012 to 2013 he played for the Idaho Stampede of the NBA Developmental League. Owens played for Hapoel Tel Aviv in Israel from 2013 to 2014 and has played for Aquila Basket Trento in Italy since 2013.
