He made his Formula One car debut on September 25, 1983 in the European Grand Prix and his last race was on November 5, 1989 in the Australian Grand Prix and at the end of 1989 Palmer became the test driver for the McLaren team and spent a season in the British Touring Car Championship.

In 1991, Jonathan Palmer was working as on the BBC’s Formula One commentary team and building PalmerSport, his corporate entertainment company focusing on driving events on a world class track with Formula One and GT cars.
