He was a walk-on for the Purdue wrestling team and was a four-year letterman. Fitch has a Black belt in Guerilla Jiu Jitsu and is part of the American Kickboxing Academy.

He made his MMA debut in July 2002 when he lost to Mike Pyle. Fitch made his UFC debut in October 2005 when he defeated Brock Larson. Fitch won the vacant WSOF Welterweight Championship by defeating Joao Zeferino in April 2016.
