John Georges is an American businessman and politician who has a net worth of $350 million. John Georges was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in October 1960. He identified as a Democrat before 2010 and since 2010 he has been an Independent. In 2007 he finished third in the 2007 Louisiana gubernatorial election.

He contributed about $5 million of his own money towards his campaign. He also finished third in the 2010 New Orleans mayoral election. Georges purchased The Advocate newspaper in 2013 and became the publisher of the Louisiana daily paper. He is the chairman of Georges Enterprises and a commissioner of the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad. In 1992 he was appointed to the Board of Regents which supervises higher education in Louisiana. Georges is also known for his philanthropic work and has donated millions of dollars. He helped out the University of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
