Jim Tom Hedrick, also known as Marvin Hedrick, grew up in Graham County, North Carolina, and began working as a moonshiner when he was 15. He was originally hired to haul sugar, by boat, to a national park, where his boss had a distillery.
He went on to start his own moonshining business, and has been locked up multiple times. However, he has never been arrested for moonshining. Instead, he has mostly been sent to jail for drunken or disorderly conduct stemming from the fact that he drinks quite a fair amount of the liquor he makes. In addition to moonshining, he has also worked in a cotton gin and in construction. He currently repairs computers and other electronics. He is one of the cast members of the Discovery Channel series, “Moonshiners”, which is currently in its 3rd season.
