He is a self-taught musician who plays guitar, piano, fiddle, banjo, harmonica, and organ. His self-titled debut studio album was released in 1974 and reached #6 on the US Country chart as well as #55 on the Billboard 200 chart and #48 on the Canadian chart.
He also released the albums Not Just Another Pretty Foot in 1975 and New Deal in 1993. Stafford’s single “Spiders & Snakes” reached #1 in Canada and #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
