Kirke attended the Rhode Island School of Design where she majored in art and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting. Kirke is first and foremost an artist. She fell into acting through roles she accepted for a number of her friends. Lena Dunham asked Kirke to take on a supporting role in her debut film “Tiny Furniture” and again turned to Kirke for a role in her HBO series “Girls”.
