He began working as a sportscaster almost immediately after graduation, with a job with WYMT-TV in Kentucky.

From there, he went on to work as a sports anchor in Connecticut, and then served as a sports director for stations in Ohio and Florida. He began working for ESPN in 2003, serving as the co-host of ESPN2’s popular morning show, “First Take”. In 2012, it was announced that he would begin hosting ESPN’s new midday SportsCenter show, when it launches in early July. While he always focused on a career in broadcasting, he also dabbled in a baseball career, and played three games as a minor league baseball pitcher in the mid-2000s, before shelving the idea and returning to broadcasting full-time.
