Gia Carangi was an American fashion model who had a net worth of $10 thousand at the time of her death. Gia Carangi was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in January 1960 and passed away in November 1986. She was considered by some to be the first supermodel and appeared on covers of magazines such as Cosmopolitan and Vogue and in campaigns for Christian Dior, Armani, Yves Saint Laurent, and Versace.

Carangi become addicted to heroin and she contracted AIDS, becoming the first famous woman to die from the disease. She also worked for brands including Giorgio Armani, Bloomingdale’s, Perry Ellis, Diane Von Furstenberg, Levi Strauss & Co., Maybelline, Gianni Versace, and Vidal Sassoon.

A film titled “Gia” about her life was released on HBO in 1998. The movie starred Angelina Jolie as Gia. Jolie won a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild award for her work in the movie.In 2003 a documentary about Gia titled “The Self-Destruction of Gia” was released.

Gia Carangi passed away on November 18, 1986 at 26 years old from AIDS-related complications.
