He caught his first snapping turtle when he was seven, and went on to catch the largest snapping turtle on record, known as the “Loch Ness Turtle”, when he was seventeen. The turtle weighed 55 pounds. He then went on to perform multiple jobs, such as working in construction and milking cows, before deciding to return to his first love of working with animals. He has made a career of catching snapping turtles humanely. To date, he has caught over 12,000. He has been injured several times, and it is believed that he captures approximately 300 turtles each year. He is one of the subjects of the popular Animal Planet series, “Call of the Wildman”.
