He is a defenseman who played for the Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League. Doughty was drafted #2 by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2008 National Hockey League Draft and has played for the Kings his entire NHL career.

Doughty has won two Stanley Cup Championships with Los Angeles and was selected to the NHL All-Star Game in 2015 and 2016.
