Delta Burke was born in Orlando, Florida in July 1956. In high school Burke was named Most Likely to Succeed. As a senior she became Miss Florida and went on to the Miss America 1975 pageant. She first appeared in the TV movie Zuma Beach in 1978. From 1982 to 1983 Burke starred as Kathleen Beck in the television series Filthy Rich. She starred as Diane Barrow from 1984 to 1987 in the series 1st & Ten: The Championship. Burke’s best known role came starring as Suzanne Sugarbaker in the series Designing Women from 1986 to 1991. She starred as Delta Bishop in the TV series Delta from 1992 to 1993 and reprised the role of Suzanne Sugarbaker in the series Women of the House in 1995. She later starred as Judith Whitman in the TV series DAG from 2000 to 2001 and had a recurring role as Cherry Cherry in the series Popular from 1999 to 2001. In 1998 she authored the book Delta Style: Eve Wasn’t a Size 6 and Neither am I. Burke was nominated for Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Designing Women in 1990 and 1991. Delta has been married to fellow actor Gerald McRaney since 1989.
