Darren Star is an American producer, director, and writer for television and film who has a net worth of $120 million dollars. Darren Bennett Star was born in Potomac, Maryland in July 1961. He is best known as the creator of the TV shows Sex and the City, Melrose Place, and Beverly Hills, 90210. Star attended Winston Churchill High School as well as University of California, Los Angeles. He created Beverly Hills, 90210 which aired from 1990 to 2000, and Melrose Place which aired from 1992 to 1999. In addition to creating Sex and the City (1998 to 2004) he was also a writer for the show. He also worked on the shows Central Park West, Grosse Pointe, The $treet, Miss Match, Kitchen Confidential, Runaway, and Cashmere Mafia. He produced Sex and the City: The Movie in 2008 and Sex and the City 2 in 2010. He is also the creator of the follow up 90210 which aired from 2008 to 2013. Star won the Austin Film Festival’s Outstanding Television Writer Award in 2002. He is on the Board of Directors for the L.A. nonprofit Project Angel Food. He is openly gay and has homes in L.A. and New York City. He won a Primetime Emmy Award in 2001 for Outstanding Comedy Series for Sex and the City.
