He competed at Wake Forest University before turning professional in 1976. Strange competed on the PGA Tour and the Champions Tour and has 28 professional wins with 17 on the PGA Tour.

One of his best accomplishments is winning the U.S. Open in back to back years in 1988 and 1989. Strange finished tied for 2nd at the 1985 Masters Tournament and the 1989 PGA Championship. He was the PGA Tour leading money winner in 1985, 1987, and 1988 and was named PGA Player of the Year in 1988. Curtis Strange was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2007.
