A renowned banker and industrialist, Antonio del Valle Ruiz joins the billionaires’ ranks for the first time this year. He made his beginnings in banking, being one of the few who survived the nationalization in the early 1980s and then the peso’s collapse in the mid-1990s.
It was in 2002 that he decided to sell Grupo Financiero Bital to HSBC Holdings and now, he holds a share in Grupo Financiero BX+, a new banking venture and the Spanish bank Popular Español. Aside from banking, he has acquired interests in manifold industrial producers. Along with his six children, he has a $4 billion stake in chemical maker Mexichem, which is one of the largest makers of plastic tubes in the world with a market cap of $7.8 billion.
