She graduated from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. She also graduated from the College of Culinary Arts at Johnson & Wales University in Denver, Colorado.

She worked as a pastry chef in Jordon, Ontario at Inn on the Twenty for seven years. She met her husband, chef Michael Olson there. She has authored seven books about cooking. She has opened Olson Food at Port and Olson Foods at Ravine. From 2002 to 2007 Olson was the host of Food Network Canada’s cooking show Sugar.
