She is an eight-time Olympic medalist and won a Bronze in her debut in the 4×200 meter freestyle relay in 2008. Schmitt was named a captain for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Swim Team where she won a Gold Medal in the 4 x 200 meter freestyle relay and a Silver in the 4 x 100 meter freestyle relay.
