He served as editor of his high school newspaper. He wrote for the San Antonio-Express News and wrote with comedian Steve Martin. He got a job as a writer for Saturday Night Live where he worked from 1985 to 2002. Handey also wrote for the TV series The New Show in 1984 and Our Time in 1985. The first Jack Handey’s Deep Thoughts was published by National Lampoon in 1984. Deep Thoughts was a segment on SNL from 1991 to 1998. He was responsible for the SNL segments Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer and Toonces the cat. His first novel The Stench of Honolulu was released in 2013. Handey won two Primetime Emmy Award for Saturday Night Live.
